Job Description Summary

The Department of Campus Recreation will deliver high quality and comprehensive service in support of the University mission; as it applies to working with our students, visitors, faculty members, departments, and surrounding community. As a graduate assistant in the Campus Recreation Department, you will be afforded opportunities and experiences in leadership, management, decision- making, and experiential learning. This is a 10-month long position from August 1st-May 30th

The graduate assistant for intramurals is responsible for the overall planning and execution of intramurals. This position will also be active in other aspects of campus recreation as needed engaging in program committees, meetings, functions, program-specific training, and large-scale special events and initiatives. The graduate assistant for intramurals will hold regular office hours as well as weekend and evening work expected.

Required Qualification Summary

Must have a strong background working with intramural sports and programming or campus recreation. A candidate with at least two years of experience working with or supervising intramural sport activities and knowledge of IMLeagues is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a graduate program with a background in exercise and sports science, sport management, recreation management, fitness and health management or related fields.

Individual should have excellent team work skills as well as excellent background in training/evaluating/assessing officiating and mechanics; knowledge of basic sports rules; oral and written communication skills, basic computer skills.

Finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.

Essential Duties

Graduate assistant of intramurals will oversee all student staff involved with intramurals (officials, score board staff, and season tracking). Position requires approximately 20 hours per week with the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Develop the intramural sports program at USciences including, but not limited, to daily activity administration, special event coordination, recruiting, hiring, training, and development of student staff, assessment practices, reviews, reports, facilities management and follow-up with other duties being assigned as needed.

Increase awareness for intramural and club sport programming.

Review and update club sport handbook.

Oversee intramural sports during evening hours.

Implement leadership development initiatives for club sport/intramural participants.

Implement new intramural or club sports based on student needs.

Provide evening and/or weekend supervision as required for recreational programming and special events.
