SCOPE OF WORK

Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is hiring a part-time Consulting Psychiatrist, or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The successful candidate will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and consultation to University students, as well as consultation and coordination of care with other SHAC clinicians.

Key Roles
I. Psychiatric Evaluations of Referred Student Clientele
II. Medication Monitoring of Ongoing Psychiatric Cases
III. Case Consultation with SHAC staff (periodic review; presentation of new referrals)
IV. Crisis Intervention (on case-by-case basis; in support of SHAC staff)
V. Consultant will be scheduled for a minimum of seven (7) site visits per semester (Fall and Spring), five (5) hours per visit, with additional visits based on chronicity, severity and volume of student caseload, as determined in consultation between Consultant and SHAC personnel.

Responsibilities of Consultant & SHAC Personnel
A. Consultant will be accessible to Senior Counseling Staff during campus site visits for review of overall psychiatric client caseload, as well as presentation of new referrals.

B. Consultant will be accessible within 24 hours for phone consultation to Senior Counseling Staff during fall and spring academic sessions regarding urgent clinical concerns, as well as on an “as available” basis at times when University is in recess.

C. Consultant will provide means of access (via SHAC personnel and/or Consultant answering service) for student clientele regarding medication regimen in between scheduled appointments, as consistent with appropriate psychiatric care standards.

D. Consultant will document appointments with student clientele in electronic counseling records software (Titanium) as required by state law and professional ethics.

E. SHAC personnel, including Senior Counseling Staff and Counseling Practicum Trainees, will be responsible for communicating in a timely manner to psychiatric consultant by telephone, email, electronic health record and/or in-person meeting any concerns regarding student clientele’s mental status or response to psychiatric care.

F. SHAC personnel will provide physical space and other instrumental supports (computer, prescription pads, etc.) in order to ensure efficient, effective psychiatric consultation.

G. SHAC personnel will coordinate scheduling of student client caseload under clinical guidance of Consultant with administrative input from Senior Counseling Staff in order to insure effective stewardship of fiscal and other resources.

H. Consultant and SHAC personnel will agree on specific day, date and time for campus site visits on a “per semester” basis in the month prior to the start of each semester. Consultant will be scheduled for a minimum of seven (7) site visits per semester, five (5) hours per visit, with additional visits based on chronicity, severity and volume of student caseload, as determined in consultation between Consultant and SHAC personnel.

Required Qualification Summary

Qualifications
I. Graduate of an approved MD/ NP program with relevant credentials and training
II. Valid Pennsylvania DEA License
III. Valid Pennsylvania Medical License, or Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified in Psychiatry
IV. Successful completion of background checks and clearances
V. Maintains own professional liability insurance
VI. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
VII. Strong organizational and time management skills needed
VIII. Able to work effectively with behavioral health practitioners
IX. For nurse practitioner candidates, a standing collaborative agreement that would cover moonlighting work at USciences
